How We Help You Sell Your Cask

Selling your whisky cask is no small undertaking. You might have waited decades for the cask to mature, so when it comes to selling a cask we ensure that no stone is left unturned to find you the best price.

Foremost, we are brokers not dealers. We do not offer to buy your cask and then re-sell it for a profit. Rather, we work our international network of clients to get the highest price possible for you and charge a flat 10% commission.

We help with every aspect of the sale including:

  • Arranging a regauge
  • Providing a valuation
  • Finding a buyer for your cask
  • Drawing bottles for you to keep
  • Completing all administration and paperwork

The Selling Process

Once you have provided us with regauge figures for your cask we provide an initial estimate of the cask’s value. The estimate is based on similar casks we have sold recently and the prices of casks available in the market.

If you are happy with the estimate we provide you with an agreed upon contract of sale. Once the contract has been signed we get to work marketing your cask for you. We work methodically to get you exceptional prices and this takes time. It can take weeks, sometimes months, to get exceptional prices. We hope you agree that the wait is worth it, especially if you can earn tens of thousands more for your whisky cask!

Bottles & Mementos From Your Cask

After waiting decades for your cask to mature wouldn’t it be nice to keep a bottle or two? That’s what we think too and as long as we know the number of bottles you want to keep (up to 6 is normally fine) we can work that into the negotiations.

We have worked with the award winning designer Tom Niklin to design an incredible label for our clients bottles. Tom has worked with the likes of Johnnie Walker, Singleton, Bulleit, Haig, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Lagavulin and Talisker.

This means that when you get your memento from your cask it will look like any other premium bottle of whisky you would find in a whisky retailer. We also have personalisation labels so you can use your bottles as special gifts.

Our Cask Buyers

The reason we consistently deliver prices well over and above everybody else in the market is because we go to the very end user, bypassing several layers of middlemen and getting you more money as a result.

Our clients are the super wealthy elite, based mostly in Asia, America and the Middle East.  They think nothing of spending tens or hundreds of thousands on a scotch whisky cask.  Indeed, we recently sold and bottled a £53,000 cask for a client who used the bottles as wedding favours at his daughter’s wedding. In this way our clientele see whisky casks as a status symbol and a whisky cask is the ultimate jewel in a collection; bottles can be bought anywhere, casks are exclusive and unique.

What We Won’t Do

Our approach to marketing your cask is like a sniper; pinpointed, considered and accurate. By contrast, the last thing you want to do is have a shotgun approach; wide, indiscriminate and not targeted.

As such it is important to note a few of the things we won’t do:

Most importantly, we do not send out blind ‘round robin’ emails with details of the cask. This immediately kills the exclusivity of the cask and can be detrimental to the value you can eventually achieve.

Likewise, we do not list casks for sale on our website for the same reasons as above.

I can’t emphasise enough that exclusivity is the key to getting the best prices with high net worth clients. They want what no-body else has. Being able to Google the cask details is a negative for them and will have a corresponding impact on any offer they are likely to put on the cask.

Our Fees

We charge a flat 10% (8.33% + VAT) from any sale we successfully complete. There is nothing to pay until the cask is sold and there are no hidden charges or fees.

The only additional payment you may have to make is duty and VAT if you choose to keep some bottles from the cask (sorry, governments have had a love affair with taxing whisky since 1644).
